Near - infrared surface photometry of spiral galaxies ⋆ , ⋆ ⋆ I . The data

چکیده
We present K -band surface photometry of a sample of 31 inclined Sa-Scd galaxies, together with additional Jand H-band data for four of them. In this first paper of a series, profiles are presented, together with global and isophotal parameters. Our profiles are compared to similar B, R and I data collected from other sources. Three galaxies exhibit previously unknown small bars in their center, while in five others, such bars may also be present. Four objects present a narrow elongated feature in their center aligned with their major axis, which could be an inward extension of the disk. A few galaxies display very thin spiral arms. Color-color diagrams indicate that the extinction inside the four galaxies for which we have JHK ′ images is limited to AV < 2.

Pulsating red giant and supergiant stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy Andromeda I
We have conducted an optical long-term monitoring survey of the majority of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, with the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), to identify the long period variable (LPV) stars. LPV stars vary on timescales of months to years, and reach the largest amplitudes of their brightness variations at optical wavelengths, due to the changing temperature. They trace stellar populati...
متن کاملInternal Extinction in Spiral Galaxies in the Near Infrared
In order to study the effects of internal extinction in spiral galaxies we search for correlations of near infrared (NIR) photometric parameters with inclination. We use data from the 2 Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS) Extended Source Catalog (XSC) on 15,224 spiral galaxies for which we also have redshifts. For 3035 of the galaxies, I-band photometry is available which is included in the analysis....

1.65 µm (H-band) surface photometry of galaxies. III: observations of 558 galaxies with the TIRGO 1.5m telescope. Abstract. We present near-infrared H-band (1.65 µm) surface photometry of 558 galaxies in the Coma Super-cluster and in the Virgo cluster. This data set, obtained with the Arcetri NICMOS3 camera ARNICA mounted on the Gornergrat Infrared Telescope, is aimed at complementing , with ob...
متن کاملStellar Distributions and Nir Colours of Normal Galaxies
We discuss some results of a morphological study of edge-on galaxies, based on optical and especially near-infrared surface photometry. We find that the vertical surface brightness distributions of galaxies are fitted very well by exponential profiles, much better than by isothermal distributions. We find that in general the vertical scale height increases when going outward. This increase is s...
متن کاملNear-infrared Observations of Iras Minisurvey Galaxies
Near-infrared photometry at /, H, and K has been obtained for 82 galaxies from the IRAS minisurvey, a sample of infrared-selected galaxies. The near-infrared colors of these galaxies are similar to those of normal field spiral galaxies, but cover a larger range inJ — H and H — K. There is evidence of a tighter correlation between the nearand far-infrared emission than exists between the far-inf...
